Utica District Park is the largest district park, managed by Frederick County, at just under 249 acres. Located on an old farmstead 4 miles north of Frederick City, the park opened in 2007 with athletic fields, a large pavilion, trails, restroom facilities, and a playground. Phase 2 of the park’s development will add synthetic and natural turf multipurpose fields, 1 ½ miles of paved and natural surface trails and walkways, playgrounds, three picnic shelters, lighting, and more. Construction is expected to be completed in the spring of 2020.
One of the new playgrounds will be a destination playground. Destination playgrounds are typically built with a theme to provide creative, unique experiences. The design is largely inclusive to all ages and abilities, and provides imaginative concepts with customized options, ultimately turning a play space into a destination that will draw people from near and far.
During construction of phase 2, Utica District Park will remain open. However, shelter reservations are unavailable until January 1, 2020.
